Welcome to the Department of Physics and Engineering

The Department of Physics and Engineering offers bachelor degree programs in physics, laser science and photonics, astronomy and astrophysics, and several specializations of electrical engineering including double degrees with Science and Commerce.

These programs open up a wide range of employment opportunities, including cutting edge technologies such as the burgeoning communications industry. The engineering programs are supported by local industry partners who provide internships and scholarships through our Industry Partnership Program.

Honours and postgraduate research programs are offered in the areas of laser physics and optoelectronics, condensed matter physics, astronomy and astrophysics, theoretical physics, quantum science, biophysics, antennas, RF electronics, and wireless systems. Students work in the Department's many research centres alongside teams of academic staff, postdoctoral fellows and specialist technical staff.
